From El Clásico to the Madrid, Manchester, Milan and Riyadh derbies: the most famous rivalries and why they burn so hot.
A derby is a match between two teams with a historic rivalry, often from the same city or country, whose heat goes beyond the result to touch the identity and pride of the fans. Here are the most famous worldwide.
El Clásico
The clash between Real Madrid and Barcelona is the most famous globally, uniting two great clubs and the biggest stars, watched by hundreds of millions. More than a match; it's a clash of two schools and histories.
Great city derbies
The Madrid derby (Real vs Atlético), the Manchester derby (City vs United), the Milan derby (Inter vs Milan) and Argentina's Superclásico (Boca vs River) are among the most electric atmospheres in the game.
Arab and Saudi derbies
In Saudi Arabia, the Al-Hilal vs Al-Nassr (Riyadh derby) and Al-Ittihad vs Al-Ahli (Jeddah derby) burn hot, with huge followings and a history of fighting for titles.
Why is a derby different?
Because the table and player names fade before the desire to beat the neighbour. Anything can happen. Follow the big derby fixtures and coverage on Shahid Live.
